We Know They’re Fish
What is curiosity if not to find play. Freud states that play is a catharsis that allows children to express their feelings and dispel negative emotions to replace them with positive ones. This is not to say that we all have pent-up emotions but through play we learn about the world and ourselves, by refreshing the mind. To look at something from a different point of view, to extend the imagination between the macro and the micro. Having always loved water and spending a lot of time playing around water. Hypnotised by the smooth curves, the shimmers, reflections and transformations of what lies above or below. These fish captivated me on a trip in Corsica, looking down at the locals I was transfixed by the surreal warping of their bodies and dancing ripples. These images bring me joy by finding comfort in the known and play in the surreal. We know they’re fish.
“Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.”
